01Overview

PSP VintageWarmer2 is a digital simulation of an analog-style compressor and limiter. It offers single-band or multi-band processing, soft-knee compression and brick-wall limiting, and the developer describes its overload behavior as capable of generating saturation similar to analog tape recorders. Calibrated VU and PPM meters with overload indicators sit alongside the processing. The plugin ships with a library of presets and supports sample rates up to 192kHz.

Sound Character and Processing Modes

PSP VintageWarmer2 works in single-band or multi-band mode. In single-band mode, shelf filters handle the bass and treble frequencies. In multi-band mode, you control the bass and treble signal components separately.

The FAT (Frequency Authentication Technique) option is PSP's double-sampled processing mode. It is the main addition over the other versions in the VintageWarmer family and is intended to push the processing closer to an analog character. Processing runs in 64-bit floating point precision.

Workflow, Metering and Limiting

The plugin includes accurately calibrated VU and PPM meters with overload indicators, so you can monitor levels while shaping dynamics. Brick-wall limiting can be engaged or disengaged, depending on whether you want soft-knee compression or limiting.

Two release multiplier ranges let you choose between fast or relaxed release behavior, and a semi-automated release mode is also available. The plugin is suited to mixing tasks such as controlling dynamics and adding warmth to tracks or buses, and to mastering tasks such as managing density and average signal level.
