01Overview

Cacophony is built from recordings of orchestras, ensembles and solo performers made by Soundiron over nearly two decades. It collects the small sounds surrounding a live performance: the murmur and applause of an audience, players tuning up, warm-ups and hall ambience. Soundiron describes these elements as useful for adding a sense of place to a track, scene or sound design project. The library runs in Kontakt and includes 765 stereo WAV files totaling 12.6 GB installed.

Ambience, crowd and tuning sounds

The library is organized into four groups: orchestra tuning and warm-up, audience noises, concert hall sound effects and roomtones. Soundiron also created 20 ambience patches from the source recordings, along with 20 custom sound-designed FX and ambient presets.

The samples are 24-bit, 48 kHz uncompressed PCM WAV files, so they can be used as raw material in other wav-compatible software and samplers as well as in Kontakt.

Kontakt controls, LFO and arpeggiator

The Kontakt interface offers layering, cross-fading, articulation switching, and controls for swell, attack, release, offset, vibrato, filter and pitch, including coarse and fine tuning.

An adaptable LFO system offers selectable shape, target, speed, intensity, tempo sync and fade-in time. The library includes 12 lowpass, high-pass and FX filters with assignable modulation sources, a customizable arpeggiator with velocity table, swing and randomization, and a key and scale lock for constraining notes.

A modular FX rack provides 18 DSP modules across 10 slots, which can be ordered as needed. The reverb section uses convolution impulse responses with 99 rooms, halls, chambers and outdoor environments, plus 40 custom FX impulses.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What do I need to use Cacophony?

Cacophony requires the full retail version of Native Instruments Kontakt 5.5 or later. The free Kontakt Player only runs it in a limited demo mode.

Which operating systems does Cacophony support?

Cacophony is listed for Windows and macOS. Windows 7 or higher and Mac OS X 10.9 or higher are the stated minimum versions.

Can I use the WAV samples outside of Kontakt?

Yes. The sample directories are unlocked, so the 24-bit / 48 kHz WAV files can be used in other wav-compatible software, samplers and synths.

How much disk space does Cacophony need?

The library takes up 12.6 GB once installed. Soundiron recommends a SATA or SSD drive for this library.
