01Overview

Bronze Bin is a metallic percussion library built from a single found object: a bronze refuse bin. Soundiron recorded tuned and untuned sounds played with fingers, mallets and sticks, captured with a wide stereo pair of studio microphones. The developer describes the result as tones ranging from soft bell-like sounds to raspy, colliding frequencies. The library also includes the Chrome Can, a second source instrument added in version 3.0, which pairs with the bin for additional articulations.

Sound Character and Sample Content

The library's source instruments are the Bronze Bin and the Chrome Can. Samples cover multiple articulations, including finger sides, mallet bottoms, mallet edges, mallet rims, mallet sides and stick rims, with round-robin variations and several velocity layers on each.

The collection contains 794 stereo samples in 24-bit / 48 kHz uncompressed WAV format, totaling 1.25 GB installed. Soundiron also provides custom ambiences, drones and pads made from the source material, which extend the instrument beyond straight percussion.

The developer says the instrument produces a wide range of harmonics, overtones and undertones, from melodic bell tones to noisier textures.

Kontakt Controls, FX Rack and Reverb

The Kontakt interface offers automation-ready controls for swell, attack, release, offset, vibrato, filter, coarse and fine pitch, articulation switching and cross-fading. Twenty custom sound-designed FX presets are included.

An LFO system provides selectable shapes, modulation targets, speed, intensity, tempo sync and fade-in time. Twelve lowpass, highpass and FX filters can be assigned to modulation sources such as velocity, mod wheel, expression, aftertouch, key position and step-sequencer table control. The arpeggiator adds a velocity table and controls for direction, timing, swing, randomization and duration, and a key and scale lock keeps notes within chosen scales.

A modular FX rack provides 18 DSP effect modules that can be placed in any of 10 slots in any order. The convolution reverb includes 99 rooms, halls, chambers and outdoor impulse responses, plus 40 custom FX impulses. Factory FX rack chain presets are also included.

The Kontakt presets and WAV samples are unlocked, so you can edit them.
