01Overview

BDX-1000 is built around the bassdrum circuit of the Roland TR-909, modeled in two oscillator modes. Rave Generation positions it for electronic music production, covering vintage 909 character as well as harder, modern kick design. Beyond the core oscillator, the plugin adds transient shaping, a Punch FX stage, allpass dispersion, a Mackie-style strip EQ, per-hit modulation and a 50-sample layer engine. A built-in RRV-10 reverb send rounds out the signal chain.

Best for

Oscillator Character and Transient Shaping

The Classic oscillator mode uses a triangle tone that the developer says is modeled after the original TR-909 bassdrum circuit. The ALT mode offers a cleaner, sine-like tone. Tune x2 and Decay x2 switches extend the range, and chromatic MIDI tracking lets you play the kick melodically.

The transient section offers six tick types, including a 2 kHz sine burst, a two-operator FM option that tracks oscillator pitch, filtered noise, a highpass impulse, a fast downward chirp and inharmonic metal partials. Together they set the attack character of each hit.

Punch FX, Strip EQ and Per-Hit Modulation

The Punch FX section combines an LP/HP/BP filter with four distortion algorithms (Tube, Tape, Clip and Fold), each with frequency, resonance, grit, tone and mix controls. The Mackie-style strip EQ adds analog console saturation from 0 to 40 dB, high and low shelves, two parametric mid bands and a switchable Pre/Post highpass filter.

The Mod Ring applies a shared envelope (Exp, Lin, Log, Bump or Sine) to up to eight depth targets, so EQ, frequency, shelf and reverb send settings can move on every hit. Allpass dispersion with up to 256 cascaded filters adds transient smearing and laser-sweep effects.
