01Overview

Sonic Sweep 2 is built around the console-style channel strip, with three independent channels that each carry parametric EQ, shelf filters and a low-cut filter. Rave Generation positions it as a nod to the classic 8-bus console lineage. Its analog modelling adds saturation, transformer drive, console noise and component-aging distortion, so the processing can be pushed from subtle to heavily colored. The plugin is aimed at producers who want an EQ and saturation stage that can work on drums, buses and full mixes.

Console EQ and Analog Character

Each of the three channels includes a Hi-Mid band covering 500 Hz to 18 kHz and a Lo-Mid band covering 45 Hz to 3 kHz. Both are fully parametric, with bandwidth continuously variable from 3 octaves down to 1/12 octave. Dedicated 12 kHz and 80 Hz shelf EQs and a 75 Hz, 18 dB/oct Chebyshev low-cut filter complete each strip.

Rave Generation describes the analog stage as multi-stage soft-clip amplifiers with +26 dBu headroom, NJM4560 op-amp slew rate limiting and calibrated transformer drive. Console Age adds asymmetric distortion, and Console Noise adds hiss, 50 Hz hum and slow drift for a less static sound.

Routing, Oversampling and Precision Controls

The Parallel-Serial blend lets you move continuously between parallel summing and serial, daisy-chained processing. An equal-power crossfade handles the transition, and shared post-blend shelf filters keep phase coherence across routing modes.

Oversampling is selectable in three modes: CO at 1x with zero latency, NORMAL at 2x and HIGH at 4x, all using Kaiser-windowed FIR anti-alias filters. NORMAL and HIGH apply automatic latency compensation. Gain X2 extends boost and cut to ±30 dB, Freq X2 doubles the sweep ceiling, and EQ Flip moves the EQ before or after the clipper. All filters run at 64-bit double precision.

Questions, answered

What formats and operating systems does Sonic Sweep 2 support?

Sonic Sweep 2 is available in VST3 and AU formats. It runs on Windows and macOS, and the plugin is 64-bit.

What do I need to run Sonic Sweep 2?

You need a VST3 or AU compatible DAW. The developer lists Windows 10/11 (64-bit) or macOS 10.13 or later with native Apple Silicon support, an Intel Core i5 or AMD equivalent at 2 GHz or faster, and 4 GB of RAM minimum, with 8 GB recommended.

Does Sonic Sweep 2 add latency?

The CO oversampling mode runs at 1x with zero latency. NORMAL (2x) and HIGH (4x) modes add latency, which the plugin compensates automatically.

What does the Parallel-Serial blend do?

It lets you move continuously between parallel summing and serial, daisy-chained processing. An equal-power crossfade controls the transition, and shared shelf filters keep phase coherence across routing modes.
