01Overview

TubEQ brings two classic equalizer designs into one processor. The low end follows the passive Pultec EQP-1A circuit, including its well-known simultaneous boost and cut at low frequencies. The mid and high bands are inspired by the Maag EQ4M, with fixed points for body, vocal presence and definition, plus a sweepable Air band. A 12AX7 tube stage adds harmonic character, and an auto makeup gain control keeps perceived loudness steady while you adjust the EQ.

Pultec Low-End and Maag Mid-High Character

The low section models the Pultec EQP-1A with Wave Digital Filter processing. It offers three selectable frequencies at 30 Hz, 60 Hz and 100 Hz, and supports the Pultec Trick of boosting and cutting low frequencies at the same time for added weight and definition.

The mid and high bands are inspired by the Maag EQ4M. Fixed points at 160 Hz, 650 Hz and 2.5 kHz cover body, vocal presence and attack. The Air band is sweepable across six frequencies from 2.5 kHz to 40 kHz, aimed at opening up the top end.

Tube Coloration and Signal Path

The processing chain runs from the Pultec passive EQ through the Maag-inspired mid and high stage to a tube amplifier stage. The 12AX7 (ECC83) tube model adds subtle harmonic coloration and warmth. Variable Tube Input and Tube Level controls let you set how much tube character reaches the signal.

A 12 dB/octave lowpass at 24.5 kHz sits at the end of the chain to limit aliasing while keeping the audio band intact.
