01Overview

Super Reverb covers the classic digital reverb sound of the late 1980s. Its nine algorithms range from small rooms and large halls to plates, multi-tap delay textures and gated reverb. A switchable Vintage mode adds compander and pre- and de-emphasis circuitry, which the developer says recreates the coloration of the original hardware, while Modern mode keeps the reverb core clean. Ducking, pre-delay and a tilt EQ give you control over how the tail sits in a mix.

Reverb Algorithms and Vintage Character

The plugin includes nine algorithms: Room 1 and Room 2, Hall 1 and Hall 2, Plate 1 and Plate 2, Multi Tap 1 (Delay), Multi Tap 2 (Reverse), and Gated Reverb. Rave Generation says each one is modeled on the original Boss RRV-10 gate array architecture.

The Vintage/Modern switch changes the character of the effect. Modern mode gives a clean digital reverb core. Vintage mode adds NE572 compander emulation, with a compressor before the reverb and an expander after it, along with pre-emphasis and de-emphasis filters. The developer describes this as the subtle analog coloration of the 1987 hardware.

Ducking, Pre-Delay and Tone Controls

Input-driven ducking lowers the reverb level while a signal is present and lets it swell back afterward. Duck Time runs from 10 to 500 ms, Duck Sensitivity and Duck Amount each range from 0 to 100 percent. This is useful for keeping a reverb tail from crowding vocals or lead parts.

Pre-delay from 0 to 250 ms separates the dry signal from the start of the reverb tail. The tilt EQ, ranging ±10 dB between 340 Hz and 2.7 kHz, moves the sound from dark and warm to bright. Separate Effect Level and Direct controls support parallel processing and 100 percent wet operation for send and return setups.
