01Overview

Aurora is built around a simple problem: reverb can blur a mix. Instead of relying on long routing chains and manual EQ, Aurora adjusts its own output in response to the audio passing through it. iZotope positions it as a single tool for adding three-dimensional space to instruments and vocals while keeping them clear. The plugin includes six reverb types, adjustable pre-delay, decay, width and tone controls, and a dedicated unmasking section.

Adaptive unmasking and reverb character

Aurora's unmasking section reacts to incoming audio and removes space from the reverb signal where it would compete with the source. You can set the amount of unmasking, attack and release reaction times, and unmasking sensitivity, so the effect can be tuned to the material instead of applied uniformly.

The main reverb controls cover the amount of reverb, pre-delay and decay times, width and general tone. High-pass and low-pass filters on the board let you shape the reverb sound within the mix. iZotope credits its Exponential Audio reverb algorithms for the core sound, and the developer describes the result as lush and three-dimensional.

Presets and starting points

Aurora includes more than 60 presets covering common reverb needs, including tight drum rooms, expansive ambient washes, realistic plates and creative sound palettes. The presets give a starting point for a sound, which can then be adjusted with the unmasking and filter controls.
