Sound Character and Sample Detail
The alto xylophone is sampled with felt mallets, and the recordings include glisses and percussive knocks alongside the notes. Its tone is described as warm and plunky with a fast decay. The two soprano instruments differ in voicing: one has 13 notes from C5 to A6 with a rounded tone, and the other has 12 notes from C5 to G6 with a crisper, more biting sound, played with mallets and wooden cube hammers.
All three instruments were recorded in a dry studio from two microphone positions, with 10 round robins and up to 14 velocity layers per note. Samples are stored as 24-bit / 48 kHz uncompressed PCM WAV files, 14,129 stereo files in total, taking up 3.1 GB installed.
