Sound and Recording Approach
The instruments were recorded in the range of five octaves using two different cassette decks. Each note has four dynamic layers, so playing softer or harder changes the tone and character of the pluck.
The developer denoised every note with a high-quality algorithm to prevent noise from stacking when several notes sound together. Some noise remains in the samples to avoid denoising artifacts. A noise knob lets you add cassette hiss back in and adjust its volume independently, along with filtering. Because the noise is shared across the chord rather than repeated per voice, a five-note chord plays back one noise sample instead of five stacked ones.
