01Overview

Cassette Mallets.01 from THEPHONOLOOP collects three bell and mallet instruments that carry the character of an old, unsteady cassette recorder. Each instrument covers a 49-key range from E2 to E6 and uses three velocity layers. The developer built the set for playability across that range and notes that the instruments sound especially good when transposed down. The library is designed for producers who want vintage tonal color in a compact, ready-to-play package.

Sound Design and Editing Controls

Each instrument includes an editable Sample Start parameter, which can be set from the interface or assigned to the Mod Wheel. Moving the start point lets you cut the initial transient while you shape a sound.

An octave-down switch transposes every instrument down by one octave, a useful option given how well the developer says these sounds work at lower pitches. A noise slider adds a separate noise layer that can be level-adjusted and filtered independently of the notes.

The developer reports that each note was denoised with a high-quality algorithm to prevent noise from stacking when several notes play together. Chords therefore carry a single noise layer rather than one per voice.

Playing Features and Round-Robin Behavior

The simulated round-robin feature is meant to keep repeated notes sounding natural when a pattern is played ostinato, including at fast tempos. Mono mode and a reverse (REV) mode add further options for rhythmic and textural playing.

The interface is a single page, so every control is visible at once. This keeps sound design quick, and the GUI is kept deliberately simple, close to a synth panel in layout.

The set includes three basic presets to start from, and the developer notes a wider range of weird and experimental sounds can be made with the instruments.
