01Overview

Synthx V is a software synthesizer that recreates the design of the Elka Synthex, a 1980s multi-timbral synth. Its dual-layer architecture lets you stack or split two sounds, and its Curtis CEM3320-emulated multimode filter sits at the core of the voice. Arturia adds a Multi-Arp, an effects rack and expressive keyboard and macro controls on top of the original design. Synthx V is available as VST2, AU, AAX and Standalone.

Sound Design and Layer Architecture

Synthx V runs two layers in Solo or Duo (stacked) mode, and Stereo Link can spread cloned layers hard left and right for a wide image. The engine offers up to 16 voices of polyphony, with 8 per layer, plus a Mono mode.

Each layer has two virtual analog oscillators with Saw, Triangle, Square and Pulse waveforms, pulse width control, cross modulation, ring modulation and hard sync for oscillator 2. A unison mode per layer adds thickness. The multimode filter emulates the Curtis CEM3320 and provides 24 dB and latent 12 dB low-pass, 6 and 12 dB band-pass, and 12 dB high-pass modes. A white and pink noise generator and a BBD-based chorus with three modes complete the sound path.

Multi-Arp, Modulation and Effects

The Multi-Arp uses four stacked arp layers, and you can send arp patterns to each layer independently or to both. It offers 30 arp modes with rhythms of up to 16 steps, a continuous octave parameter, note repeat and several retrigger options. Arp settings can be browsed and saved.

Modulation is handled by drag-and-drop assignment with hover-over adjustment across three modulation slots. Sources include an ADSR envelope, random and step modulators, and a function generator. The effects rack has four drag-and-drop FX slots with 17 effects, including Super Unison, MultiBand Compressor and a Chorus JUN-6.
