Synclavier V is Arturia's recreation of the Synclavier, a digital synthesizer and workstation that was costly and rare when it first appeared. The plugin blends additive and FM synthesis, and Arturia developed it with original programmer Cameron Jones. It ships with 450 presets and is built for producers who want a distinctly digital voice, with edgy, bright or mellow tones depending on how it is programmed.

Digital Sound Character and Synthesis Engine

Synclavier V is built around a combination of additive and FM synthesis. Additive harmonics can be controlled on both the carrier and modulation oscillators, with 24 harmonics per oscillator. Arturia expanded the timbre structure from four partials in the original to twelve.

The Time Slice engine lets the sound evolve over time, including over several minutes. According to Arturia, the instrument is especially suited to extended pads and slow cinematic or ambient textures. The developer states that there is no analog or sample-based component in the sound.

Workflow, Interface and Preset Browsing

The interface offers three views, so you can choose how much control you want to see at once. The preset browser lets you search by name or filter by tags, mark favorites, add comments and organize playlists.

The user interface can be resized for high-resolution, UHD and Retina screens. Arturia also includes Synclavier V in the V Collection 5 bundle, and the plugin is licensed through the Arturia Software Center.
