01Overview

SuperPlate models the EMT 140, EMT 240, Audicon, Stocktronics RX4000 and EcoPlate III reverb units in a single plugin. Each plate style is built around the tonal character of its original hardware, so you can choose a darker, tighter foil sound or a brighter, more spacious steel-alloy plate. Three analog coloration options, Tube, Solid-State and Clean, can be paired with any plate style, and digital controls add infinite decay, pre-delay and modulation.

Plate Styles and Sound Character

SuperPlate covers five plate styles, each based on a specific classic unit. The EcoPlate III style is described as exceptionally bright and spacious. The GoldFoil 240 style is based on the EMT 240, which used a thin gold foil rather than a steel plate to produce a darker and tighter sound. The Classic 140 style follows the EMT 140, the plate reverb many producers use as a reference. The Audicon style is based on a more economical plate design, and the Stocktronics style is based on the RX4000, which has an extended high-frequency response.

Because each style is modeled separately, you can switch between them to match the tone a track needs.

Preamp Options and Decay Control

SuperPlate offers three preamp modes that sit before the reverb. Tube mode is modeled on the EMT V54 preamp and can add a light or heavy harmonic color to the signal. Solid-State mode is modeled on the EMT 162 preamp and includes a compressor that can help control transients entering the reverb. Clean mode removes preamp modeling entirely.

The Auto-Decay feature shortens the decay to a target setting whenever the input exceeds an adjustable threshold. This keeps punchy transients clear, and the recovery speed control sets how quickly the tail returns to full length. A built-in four-band EQ, with low-cut, high-cut and two parametric bands, lets you tame low-frequency buildup and mid-range resonances in the reverb.
