01Overview

Shudder is a sample collection built for tense and unsettling sound. It combines glitched hits, stingers and risers with ambiences, drones and pads, all designed to sit together so any sound can be layered or sequenced with another. The library ships with Kontakt instrument presets and Decent Sampler presets, plus 553 unlocked stereo WAV files for use in other workflows.

Sound Character and Sample Content

Shudder contains 501 percussive and textural sounds that Soundiron describes as mangled, deep and nightmarish. The content spans eight categories of hits, stingers and dramatic risers, along with three categories of dark textural ambiences, soundscapes, drone pads and horror atmospheres.

The developer says every sound was sculpted by sound designer Spencer Nunamaker of Juno VHS, and the sounds are designed for cohesion so they blend well when combined. Soundiron notes that turning on the arpeggiator, adjusting the sequencer and playing a few keys can produce unexpected results.

Controls, Effects and Workflow

The Kontakt presets include controls for attack, release, transient offset, dynamic swelling, filter type selection and resonant filter sweep. A robust arpeggiator offers dynamic arpeggiation modes and step sequencer pattern options.

A full FX rack includes convolution reverb with custom rooms, halls, chambers and FX environments. The mixer offers pro features and deep customizability within the interface.

Shudder requires Kontakt. The included .nki instrument presets need the full retail version of Native Instruments Kontakt 6.6 or later, and the free Kontakt Player does not support this library.
