01Overview

Prophet 5 V is Arturia's software version of the Prophet-5 Rev 2, a polyphonic analog synth. The plugin models the original's signature layout and its Dave Rossum-designed SSM 2040 low-pass filter. It adds modern additions for DAW work, including an extra LFO, a Function Generator, 16 built-in effects and MPE and MTS-ESP support. Its built-in preset library and tutorials are aimed at getting usable sounds quickly.

Analog Sound and the Poly-Mod Architecture

Prophet 5 V models two SSM voltage-controlled oscillators with five waveforms each, a noise generator and hard sync. The Poly-Mod section lets one signal modulate the oscillators and filter in ways the original hardware made famous, and Voice Dispersion emulates the slight variation between analog voices.

Unison Detune and a Chord mode extend the sound into thicker pads and stacked lines. The developer describes the result as a faithful remake rather than a loose imitation of the instrument.

Workflow, Modulation and Effects

A three-shape LFO comes with quick destination controls, and a 5-pattern arpeggiator includes a Hold mode. The additional six-waveform LFO and Function Generator let you build custom modulation routings.

Four keyboard modulation sources respond to velocity, aftertouch, keyboard tracking and the mod wheel. The 16 built-in effects run across three slots that can be set in series or parallel. The plugin also works as a standalone app with a MIDI keyboard.
