Plate: Physically-Modeled Plate Reverb by UVI

Plate is a physically-modeled plate reverb plugin from UVI. It simulates the metal plate, dampening and decay of classic electro-mechanical reverbs, and it is built to run inside UVI Workstation and Falcon.

01Overview

Plate is a reverb effect from UVI that models plate reverb as a fully parametric physical system. Rather than cloning one hardware unit, it lets you recreate the sound of several classic plate reverbs, including the EMT140 and EMT240, and adjust their physical characteristics to design new ones. Plate's decay and EQ sections give you detailed control over how the tail develops and how its frequency balance evolves.

Physical Modeling and Sound Character

Plate models the components that shape a plate reverb. You can choose from several metal sheet types, change the plate size, position the inputs and outputs on the plate, and add irregularities and tension to the metal.

The decay is shaped by simulations of the physical dampener, thermo-elastic loss and air radiation. UVI says the model was calibrated against measurements of an EMT140 and EMT240, so the sounds are grounded in measured hardware behavior while still allowing for experimentation.

Decay and EQ Editing with Quality Control

A graphical editor lets you sculpt the decay and EQ sections interactively, with a built-in spectral analyzer showing results in real time. The decay section includes three modeled decay stages (damper, friction and air), octave-band decay, octave-band EQ and a lowcut EQ.

A variable Quality control sets how many modes are simulated, up to 20,000. The default setting suits most patches, while higher settings are better suited to offline rendering. A compact mode covers quick preset browsing, and an expanded view reveals the full decay editor.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What operating systems does Plate support?

Plate runs on macOS from 10.14 Mojave through macOS 15 Sequoia, and on Windows 10 through Windows 11 in 64-bit.

What do I need to use Plate?

Plate runs inside UVI Workstation and Falcon. It requires an iLok account, which is free, and an internet connection for license activation. A dongle is not required.

Which hardware reverbs does Plate model?

UVI says Plate was calibrated against measurements of the EMT140 and EMT240, and it is designed to replicate the sound of many hardware plate reverbs.

Does Plate include presets?

Yes, Plate includes a preset library, which you can browse in its compact mode and then adjust to suit your input material.
