01Overview

Noah Bells is a tuned percussion library built around 21 Indian Khadki bells, recorded in a range of sizes from very large to under an inch across. The developer describes the bells as smelted from copper-based mixtures, with carved wooden clappers. Each bell was sampled in multiple velocities with round-robin variation, captured both up close and dry and from a distance in a large cathedral sanctuary. The library runs in Kontakt and includes a custom user interface with envelope, tuning, vibrato, articulation and arpeggiator controls.

Sound, Tone and Recording Approach

Soundiron describes the bells as having a dark, raspy tone with heavy low and mid-range body, variable sustain, and complex overtones and undertones. The sample set covers mallet, finger, brush and slap articulations, so the same bells can be played in several ways.

Close and far microphone positions are separate, which lets you blend a dry, focused attack with a more spacious, room-driven sound. The far positions were captured in a large open cathedral sanctuary.

Interface, Effects and Included Presets

The custom Kontakt interface gives control over attack, release, transient offset for tightening, dynamic swelling, vibrato and tuning. A sub-synth waveform module can reinforce the tone, and a step-sequencing arpeggiator with custom dynamic modes handles rhythmic patterns.

The library also includes a rack of Kontakt multi-effects and a set of convolution reverb impulses covering cathedrals, churches, halls, bunkers, garages and tunnels, plus 12 custom FX presets and 34 ambient pads, leads and atmospheres. Presets and samples are unlocked for user editing.
