Vocal Processing Tools and Workflow

The Auto Level Module sits at the start of the signal chain and manages vocal levels before other processing. iZotope describes it as a transparent alternative to compressors. Its Tame Noise feature separates sung from unsung content so that only tonal elements are leveled. Two 24-band dynamic EQs with Follow EQ Mode track and reduce resonances in real time.

Nectar 4 also communicates with other iZotope plugins in the same session to address tonal balance and masking. The thirteen component plugins can be placed in a DAW template and combined into custom vocal chains for each track in a production.

Harmony, Backing Vocals and Vocal Layers

The Voices Module creates vocal layers with auto-harmonies. You can choose from eleven harmony styles, use MIDI mode to set the notes, and adjust the number of voices and their direction above or below the lead vocal. Its Mixer View controls the placement of each voice.

The Backer Module generates artificial background singers from eight styles or from an imported acapella. Tone, Pitch and Formant controls help the backing voices sit behind the lead, and automation can change style and shifting over the course of a track.

Melodyne 5 Essential is included for pitch correction, and Audiolens can separate a vocal from a reference track to create a tone-matching target.
