Sound, Playing Styles and Effects in Nagoya Harp

The sample library was recorded with plectrum, bow, sticks, palm muting, hammer-ons and pull-offs, along with several una corda configurations and tunings. Multiple microphones were captured for each sample, including a Royer SF-24, Neumann U67 and Bruel & Kjaer 4006, and each one has its own level control.

The effects section includes convolution and algorithmic reverb, drive, chorus, phaser, delay and a 3-band EQ. These range from natural acoustic spaces to guitar-like tones and washed-out drones.

STRUM and KEYS: Two Ways to Play Nagoya Harp

STRUM is built for traditional playing, with a compact control set covering drone and open string tuning, a velocity sequencer, key noise amount and control over three microphones. Its scripting triggers hammer-on and pull-off samples for guitar-like expression and natural strumming.

KEYS extends the same base with extra techniques, including una corda high and low strings, palm muting, sticks and bowed playing. It adds a 4-stage amplitude envelope, a multimode filter, stereo unison, a mono/poly switch with pitch glide, and quick mappings for a controller keyboard's mod wheel.
