01Overview

MFM2 is u-he's delay effect built around four delay lines that can be routed into each other through a feedback matrix. Each line has its own filter, and the delays can run in absolute time or sync to tempo. The developer describes version 2.5 as adding a redesigned interface, a new input section, granular processing and a diffusor effect that works as a reverb. The plugin is aimed at producers who want to shape delays beyond simple echoes, with options for ping-pong, chorus, flanger, glitch and endless-loop effects.

Best for

  • Ping-pong delays
  • Experimental glitch effects
  • Reverb and ambience
  • Chorus and flanger textures
  • Ducked delays
  • Endless loops

Delay Lines, Filters and Feedback Routing

MFM2 provides four delay lines, and each one can run in independent absolute time or in tempo-synced modes. Every delay line has its own multimode filter with lowpass, highpass, bandpass, bandreject and allpass options.

The feedback matrix controls how the delay lines feed one another. Six default configurations are included, and a user matrix lets you route signals freely between all four lines. The input section handles gain, filtering and transient balance before the signal reaches the delays, and the two channel-pair compressors can work in peak or maximize mode.

For modulation, there are four syncable LFOs with eight waveforms or user-definable shapes, two loopable multi-stage envelope generators, and a four-slot modulation matrix with depth modulation from a second source.

Effects, Presets and Interface

Beyond delay, MFM2 includes channel-pair effects such as a soft clipper, bit crusher, phaser, frequency shifter and filter. Version 2.5 adds granular processing with pitch shift and reverse delays, and a diffusor for reverb-style ambience. An output shield with strength and threshold controls is also included.

The interface scales from 70% to 200%. The library ships with more than 400 factory presets, several of which use the diffusor, and the user guide is available from the u-he logo in the interface.
