01Overview

KORG MS-20 V is a software emulation of the KORG MS-20, a semi-modular monophonic synth released in 1978. Arturia developed it in partnership with KORG to recreate the instrument's gritty, high-voltage character. The plugin pairs dual VCOs and resonant filters modeled on KORG IC-35 and OTA chips with a patch bay for custom signal routing. Arturia has also added 6-voice polyphony, a 12-step sequencer and a 16-effect section.

Sound Character and Core Synthesis

The oscillators offer Noise, PWM, Ring Mod, Hard-Sync and Frequency Modulation, so you can move from detuned basses to sharp, howling leads. The high-pass and low-pass filters are modeled on KORG IC-35 and OTA chips, aiming to reproduce the original's resonant, aggressive tone.

A Modulation Generator LFO with morphing waveforms and two Envelope Generators with Looping and Snappy modes add movement. The External Signal Processor adds an Envelope Follower and sidechaining, which lets an incoming signal shape the sound.

Patch Bay, Sequencer and Expanded Features

The patch bay lets you reroute the signal path for semi-modular sound design. Its built-in 3-channel, 12-step sequencer is based on the KORG SQ-10 and can be routed through the patch bay to modulate other parts of the synth.

Arturia added 6-voice polyphony with Unison mode, a 16-effect section across 4 slots that can run in series or parallel, and MTS-ESP microtuning compatibility.
