01Overview

Digital Brain Instruments developed Interakt as a multi-sampler for creating sound effects for games, apps, films, music and multimedia projects. Rather than loading a single instrument, you drag audio files into the interface and select regions of them to combine by hand. Each source can be manipulated separately, so you can blend selections into a new sound. Finished sounds can be played from a MIDI keyboard or the computer keyboard.

Building Sounds from Your Own Audio Files

Interakt starts with a files browser. You drag any file into the dropzone, which holds up to 8 audio selections. For each selection you set a start and end point, pre-listen to it, and use pitch bend to shape it.

The four layer sections take material from the browser or from the dropzone. Each layer offers panning, pitch shifting and an envelope. Fade in and fade out settings are available to avoid unwanted clicks when a selection is triggered.

Playback, Master Processing and Export

Dropzone selections and layers can be assigned to MIDI device keys or triggered from the computer keyboard. Version 1.1 added MIDI support, reversed playback, normalization and a master pitch control.

Up to two VST or AU plugins can be added to the master output. The master output can be recorded at 192 kHz, depending on your soundcard, and selections and layers can be batch exported. A presets manager stores your setups.
