Layered Granular Sampling and Timbre Control
Novum's core algorithm breaks a sample into layers, and granular synthesis runs across up to six of them. Timbre and temporal evolution are edited separately, so the tonal character of a sound and the way it changes over time can be shaped independently.
The timbre flower provides spectral modification of timbres, and the Comb-Filter can turn field recordings into tuned, playable instruments while keeping their original texture. SYNTIFY, an analog filter and comb filter form the subtractive section for darker, synth-like results.
The developer describes the granular engine as capable of smooth, velvet-like textures, with speed and pitch set independently and grains that can sync to the host tempo for rhythmic patterns.
