The Four Wooden Lamellophones
Bamboo Idiomount is a round, mbira-like bowl instrument with a hollow resonator and two opposing rows of bamboo tines. Its tone is crisp, rich and raspy, and it is sampled with three stereo mic positions: internal, close and room. Big Wooden Kalimba, also called the Wooden Idiomount, is a chromatic scale of large wooden tongues over a trapezoidal chamber, with a lush, dreamy tone and deep bass. Woodkal, or Small Wood K, is a three-octave scale of thin, flat tongues with a tight, raspy pluck. Piezo Tongues is an electric instrument of wooden blocks clamping piezoelectric strips, producing a dry, brisk pop in a distinct pitch.
Each acoustic instrument includes plucked notes and percussive taps or slaps, with close and room microphone options.
