01Overview

Go2-X is the upgraded version of Rob Papen's Go2 synthesizer, designed for owners of the original Go2. The developer's aim was to keep the all-controls-visible layout that made Go2 popular while adding features. Its core is a morph oscillator that blends two waveforms through a range of morph modes, supported by an analog-modeled filter, a 12-way modulation matrix and four serial effects units.

Oscillator, Filter and Modulation

The heart of Go2-X is the morph oscillator, which blends two waveforms using modes such as Mix, Morph, Table Split, FM, PM, AM, Ring Mod and WaveShaper. A sub-oscillator offers sine or square waves, and a symmetry control with its own modulation adds movement over time.

The filter is analog-modeled and includes two comb filter types and ring modulation. Cutoff can be modulated by velocity, key track, the mod wheel or an envelope. A separate high-pass filter sits behind the main filter. The 12-way modulation matrix routes internal envelopes and LFOs as well as MIDI sources such as pitch bend and aftertouch.

Arpeggiator, XY Pad and Drawn Waves

The arpeggiator has up to 16 steps, with per-step settings for tie, slide, velocity, unison or chord, and ratcheting. Its modes include up, down, random, ordered and sequencer, and it can be tempo-synced or latched.

The XY pad works as both a live control and a programmable modulation source, with up to 128 path points, quantize options and tempo sync. Two user waves can be drawn or built from partials in each preset, then saved and loaded.

Questions, answered

What is the difference between Go2 and Go2-X?

Go2-X is the upgrade of Go2 and adds features such as drawable user waves, an expanded arpeggiator with ratcheting and Magic Mode, and the option to run Stereo Delay and Reverb together. The developer says the upgrade is for existing Go2 owners.

Which formats and operating systems does Go2-X support?

Go2-X is available in VST3, VST2, AU and AAX formats for Windows and macOS. It is a 64-bit plugin, and the Mac version is compatible with M1 and M2 ARM processors.

Does Go2-X come with presets?

Yes, it includes over 1600 presets sorted in bank folders, along with a Quick Browser, a favorites system and a star system in the bank manager.
