01Overview

PowerChord is a guitar plugin built around groove sequencing rather than sampled loops. You can program your own grooves, use the included groove patterns, or play strokes, long strokes and ghost strokes manually. The instrument offers 53 guitar models, including solo power chord and single-note sounds as well as stacked guitar sounds, shaped with analog-modeled filters, pre-filter distortions and a flexible modulation section. The developer says the sounds are meant to complement real guitarists rather than replace them.

Guitar Models and Sound Shaping

PowerChord includes 12 solo guitar models, among them PowerChord Drop-D and Drop-A tunings, Grunge PowerChord, an RG PowerChord distortion sound and PowerNote for single notes. Another 41 stacked guitar sounds are built from these solo models.

Each guitar model has its own volume and decay control for stroke, long stroke and ghost stroke playing. The filter section offers 25 filter character types with ring modulation and amp modulation modes, and 11 pre-filter distortions are available before the filter stage. A dedicated filter envelope and an amp envelope with velocity and pan control complete the voice.

Groove Sequencer and Workflow

The groove sequencer has four sequences, A through D, each selected by a keyboard zone starting at MIDI note 36 (C1). Each sequence has up to 32 steps and separate rows for step on/off, semitone offset, strokes, velocity, ratchet, filter and amp decay or release, and two free rows.

Swing, velocity-to-key, smoothing for the free rows, speed, retrigger, tied mode and ratcheting controls shape the pattern. An 8-slot mod matrix and a ribbon controller with tempo-based or quantized spring back, in unipolar or bipolar mode, add further performance options. Many effects offer MIDI tempo-based settings.

Effects and Mixing

The effects section has three serial HQ blocks with 34 effect types, including delays, reverbs, modulation effects, amp and cabinet simulators, distortions, compressors and a noise gate. The channel includes a fixed RG-style EQ and a 5-band parametric EQ with a low-cut filter.

You can bypass the effects globally or per effect, and a bank manager and 100%, 125%, 150% and 200% interface sizes help with organization and screen layout.
