01Overview

FutzBox Native v7 is built for making audio sound deliberately degraded. Its core is a library of Synthetic Impulse Models (SIMs) that simulate the character of radios, cell phones and televisions. Alongside the SIMs, the plugin includes filtering, EQ, distortion, a noise generator and a gate, so you can shape the degradation further. Original and processed audio can be blended in real time, which suits scene changes and automation.

Low-Fidelity Sound and the SIM Library

McDSP describes FutzBox as a tool for the 'futzed' sound that post production often needs for dialog and other tracks. The SIM library models devices such as radios, cell phones and televisions in one plugin. According to McDSP, the SIMs are designed to be accurate while using less DSP power than conventional convolution-based products. They can also be scaled and changed in real time.

The plugin pairs these models with configurable futz effects, including filtering, EQ and distortion, so the base character can be pushed toward heavier or subtler degradation.

Controls for Noise, Gating and Automation

The flexible noise generator includes a ducking capability, so noise can respond to the signal. A hyper-sensitive gate is intended for signal dropout effects. Newer controls in this version include Tuned Intensity Control, Chop and Wobble.
