01Overview

The 6050 Ultimate Channel Strip brings together a set of processing modules in one plugin. McDSP includes the modules from its earlier 6020 Ultimate EQ and 6030 Ultimate Compressor, and adds gates, expanders, signal saturators and specialized filters. Three module bays sit between an input and output stage, and each bay can hold any of the 28 modules. This version is the Native build, which is the one to choose for standard DAW use rather than AAX DSP hardware.

Modules and Signal Flow in the 6050 Channel Strip

The plugin has three module bays between its input and output stages. Any of the 28 modules can be placed in any bay, and you can drag and drop modules to change the order of the signal chain.

A module selector panel lets you audition equalizers, compressors and other effects quickly, which makes it easier to compare processing choices on the fly.

The modules draw on designs from the last four decades. McDSP lists zero-latency algorithms and double precision processing among the core features.

New Modules for Saturation, Distortion and Dynamics

Several modules are new to the 6050. The S 671 is a saturation module with a Tone control for shaping the edge it adds. The Moo-D models a creamy tube overdrive that the developer suggests suits full mixes better than single tracks. The D-100 is a distortion module for more aggressive sounds.

The MEF-1 is a Mid Emphasis Filter that cuts low and high frequencies and boosts what remains between them. The E404 re-issues the FilterBank E4 high pass, low shelf, parametric and high shelf EQ. For dynamics, the EZ G is a noise gate with adjustable sidechain filters, and the FRGX and iX provide upward and downward expansion.
