01Overview

Filter M12 lifts the multi-mode filter from Oberheim's Matrix-12 synthesizer and makes it available as a standalone effect for your DAW. Arturia built it on its True Analog Emulation technology, so the filter behaves like the original hardware. Each instance contains two discrete filters, and the plugin adds envelopes, random values and a modulation oscillator to drive them. It is aimed at producers who want a filter with depth and character for both static tone shaping and movement.

Sound and filter character

Filter M12 recreates the Matrix-12 filter, which offers 15 filter modes per filter. These include low pass, high pass, band pass, notch and phase shift modes, plus four combined modes that pair a 1-pole low pass with other modes. Each filter has its own cutoff and resonance controls, along with pan and output level.

Arturia says the plugin is designed for smooth sweeps as well as rhythmic and randomized movement. Because the modes cover a wide range of tonal shapes, the same plugin can handle subtle tone control or aggressive processing.

Routing and modulation

Filter M12 offers four routing options: A, B, series and parallel. A master cutoff control moves both filters together, and a global dry/wet control blends the result with the source.

Three multi-segment envelopes can be looped, triggered by audio, or synced to the DAW clock. They can act as LFOs, step sequencers or standard envelopes. A modulation matrix connects the envelopes, random values and the modulation oscillator to more than 20 destinations.
