01Overview

DelSane is a delay effect with two sides. Its sane side is a smooth tape delay that works as a stereo or mono delay in a mix. Its creative side turns the same device into an experimental effect for shifting, disrupting and modulating the delay. Everything sits on one screen, and the interface can be scaled to 100, 125, 150 or 200 percent. Rob Papen describes it as the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde of delay plugins.

Smooth Tape Delay Sound and Core Controls

The main delay side is designed as a smooth tape delay that can be used as a stereo or mono delay. The Equal Feedback feature gives the stereo delay an even feedback tail on the left and right channels. When you need more edge, the Distortion parameter adds grit to the delay signal. For more alien tones, the Frequency Shift feature changes the pitch relationship of the delayed sound.

All controls are visible on one screen, so you can adjust the basic delay settings without navigating through menus.

Disrupt Sphere-Slider and Modulation Options

The creative side is built around the Disrupt Sphere-Slider. It can be linked to several delay parameters, so moving one control changes multiple settings at once. With the Spring feature, the slider returns to the center in a tempo-based way after you move it.

Lazy Mode lets the Sphere-Slider move automatically in different directions, which can produce flanger, chorus and other modulation-style effects. The Audio Follower can drive delay parameters, including the Sphere-Slider itself, from the incoming audio. The MIDI & MOD section offers further control over DelSane parameters, including the Disrupt Sphere-Slider.
