How the DE555 Handles Sibilance
McDSP describes the DE555 as a new generation of de-essing technology. Its signal analysis adjusts to the incoming level, so you do not need to set an input threshold for each source.
The ratio and release controls can be adjusted continuously, which makes it easier to dial in the amount of reduction. The HF only mode reduces only the high-frequency sibilance, so the lower body of a vocal or dialog track stays as recorded.
Key filter options include high pass and band pass filtering, and the key filter output can be monitored. The unique focus control further helps the detector tell sibilance apart from the main signal.
