Sound Character and Sampled Instruments
The collection includes three handpans with up to four microphone positions each. The traditional D minor handpan is sampled with fingerpads, fingertips, small soft rubber mallets and jazz brushes. Soundiron describes its tone as dark, warm and mellow, with harmonic overtones.
The two hybrid instruments are more aggressive. One is a prototype that combines a standard tongue drum with a handpan resonator face, with a brash, plucky sound and intense overtones. The other is a signature Hybrid Handpan with handpan finger dimples on its face and tuned tongues on its belly, sampled with soft rubber finger mallets, finger rolls, superball mallets and giant rubber mallets.
