Sound Character and Sample Recording
The instruments were recorded on two different cassette decks: one with a more neutral sound and one with a more lo-fi, degraded character. Each deck contributes 111 samples across three dynamic layers, which gives the playing response some variation between soft and hard notes.
Each note was denoised with a high-quality algorithm to prevent noise from stacking when several notes sound together. Some noise is left in the samples to avoid denoising artifacts, and a separate noise knob lets you add tape noise back in and adjust its level independently. Because the noise is played once rather than once per voice, chords keep a cleaner, more realistic sound.
