01Overview

Arguments combines two signals, A and B, through a math-based argument block and then a function block. B can come from an external sidechain input or from the internal generator. Each part can also run on its own, so the plugin works as a test tone generator, a complex distortion unit or a multi-mode filter. AudioThing says the design draws on analog nuclear instrumentation hardware and models analog behavior at every stage.

  • Industrial distortion
  • Rhythmic gating
  • Experimental sound design
  • Test tone generation
  • Drum texture processing

Sound Character and Signal Path

Arguments takes two signals and merges them with analog-modeled math. The developer says results range from simple boosting to high-passed industrial grit and from rhythmic modulation to raw textures.

A multi-mode filter stage follows the function block, allowing further shaping and modulation of the output.

Pushing the gain of A and B close to overload produces overdriven tones similar to overloaded op-amp circuits. Mapping A and B to MIDI controllers gives hands-on control over gain staging.

Sidechain, LFO and Oversampling Tools

In sidechain mode, rhythmic material and simple sounds work well as input. Routing an electric piano and a drum loop together is one example of a combination the developer suggests.

Running the generator in LFO mode in time with a drum beat can shape the accent of a groove. Oversampling affects high-end fizz and is a texture control. Turning it off is recommended for industrial fuzz, especially in -dx/dt mode.

Sidechain routing depends on your DAW, so check your host manual for setup details.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What formats does Arguments support?

Arguments is available in VST3, VST2, AU, AAX and CLAP formats, all 64-bit.

What operating systems does Arguments run on?

Arguments runs on Windows (Windows 7 to 11), macOS (10.13 to macOS 15, universal 2 binary) and Linux (Ubuntu 20.04 LTS). Minimum requirements are a 2GHz CPU and 4 GB RAM.

Is there a trial version of Arguments?

Yes. The demo runs with limitations: it goes silent for 3 seconds every 45 seconds and saving is disabled. A license removes these limits.
