01Overview

Das Boot is a sample-based instrument for generating foot stomps. The developer describes it as a companion to El Clapo and Le Snappet, and it reuses their approach of multiple mic positions and layered recordings. You set the group size, how loose or tight the stomps are, and how much of each mic position you hear. The plugin is aimed at music and film post-production, where a stomp track needs to sound like a real group of people rather than a looped sample.

Sound Design and Mic Control

Das Boot offers three adjustable mic positions, labeled close/mid and room. The Close and Room mics each have a fully adjustable compressor with a mix knob, a 4-band EQ and a width control. This lets you balance the intimacy of a close recording against the space of a larger room.

The Slop control sets how loose or tight the stomps are, which is the main tool for shaping a crowd. Pushing it further makes the group sound less coordinated and more like a rowdy audience.

Workflow, Sequencing and Control

The interface is kept simple, but advanced controls are available. Velocity-sensing MIDI curve control, panning, timing, layer and round-robin settings are all accessible. The round-robin setting is designed to save CPU.

A built-in 12-step sequencer lets you build up to 12 patterns, which you can switch between or automate. You can also drive the plugin from MIDI instead of the sequencer.
