01Overview

AmpliTube 5 SE is the entry edition of IK Multimedia's AmpliTube 5 line. It recreates guitar and bass gear using the developer's Dynamic Interaction Modeling and VIR cabinet technology, aiming to capture how each piece of gear responds to playing. The plugin covers the full signal chain, so you can build a tone from pedals through amp, cabinet, microphone and room. Its Custom IR Loader lets you bring in your own impulse responses. It runs on Windows and macOS in 64-bit form, and it needs an internet connection for its web-based Custom Shop operations.

Signal Chain and Modeling Approach

IK Multimedia says its Dynamic Interaction Modeling captures the nuances of each gear model, and that its VIR cabinet technology is used for cabinet simulation. The plugin lets you place stomps at several points in the chain: pre-amp, FX loop, post-amp, post-mixer and on the DI. Rack effects can be positioned in the same places, so you can route effects before or after the amp as needed.

The interface supports a drag-and-drop chain and a resizable window. You can run up to three amps and three cabinets at the same time, which makes it practical to blend two or more sounds in one patch.

Gear Library and Included Tools

The SE edition includes 80 gear models: 19 stomps, 13 amps, 14 cabinets, 9 speakers, 5 microphones, 14 rack effects and 6 rooms. The 80-model count is the entry tier, and the developer also sells the larger AmpliTube 5 and AmpliTube 5 MAX editions with more gear.

SE also includes a mixer, a looper, an 8-track recorder with an integrated DAW, and an UltraTuner. A Live Mode is available for stage use. Owners of previously purchased gear can unlock it in this edition.
