01Overview

Egoist is built around a pattern-based workflow: you chop a sample or loop into slices, add a bassline and a drum pattern, and shape each step with per-step effects. The developer positions it as a track sketching tool for the studio and for travel. It ships with a factory sample library and a set of presets, and it can be played from your DAW's MIDI or run as a standalone application.

Slicer, Bass and Beat Sequencing in One Plugin

Egoist's core is a slicer. Each slice has its own controls for pitch, direction, attack, decay and volume, so repeating the same snippet can produce a different result on every step. You can arrange up to 16 slices with that level of detail.

The bass section is a 303- and SH101-style synth. You can run the oscillator in saw or pulse and adjust resonance, decay and cutoff modulation to produce round, fat basses or sharper acid lines.

The drum module provides kick, snare and hi-hat sounds, with pitch, loudness and velocity controls and a Mix and Match option for combining kits.

Per-Step Effects and DAW Integration

Effects in Egoist are assigned per step rather than applied globally, so an effect can act as a one-shot moment in the arrangement. The seven processors are Reverb, Chorus, Delay, Filter, Lo-Fi, Tape Stop and Looper, and they can be applied to the slicer, beat and bass.

For performance and arranging, Egoist can be driven from your DAW. A Slice Key Mode lets you trigger patterns or individual slices from MIDI, and the sequencer clock can follow the internal source or your host.
