01Overview

Consequence takes chords you feed it and turns them into rhythmic, evolving note patterns. A chord sequencer built on 16-chord snapshots drives five sequencers that shape the groove, and a modulation section offers separate patterns for the synth parts, the filter and the effects. Each of the three instrument slots can run in chord or arpeggio mode, so you can combine sustained harmony with moving lines in one passage.

Chord Sequencing and Step-Level Control

The chord sequencer is the core of the plugin. You choose from a palette of 16 chord snapshots, which you define in the Chord memory section at the bottom of the interface.

Each step can be set individually as an arp or a chord, with octave and tie options, and the arpeggio direction can be adjusted in detail. Sugar Bytes describes the result as a way to build melodies with a narrow focus. Sequences and sounds can be swapped independently, so the rhythm of one preset can be paired with the sound set of another.

Sampled Instruments and Sound Shaping

Consequence ships with a sample library of about 800 MB across 15 categories and 222 sound presets. The developer notes that it includes synth sounds modeled on instruments such as the Memorymoog and OP-1, along with strings and percussion.

Each instrument has an ADSR envelope, plus Age and Crush controls for adding character to the samples. Octave, Pan and Level are available per instrument. The master section adds tuning options, a compressor and an onboard 4/4 kickdrum that can keep the groove or be routed to the compressor to glue the mix.

MIDI output on VST and AAX lets you trigger external hardware or other plugins, and sequences can be exported as MIDI by dragging them into a host or saving a file.
