01Overview

Ultimate 808 is a drum expansion built around the Roland TR-808. Its samples cover snares, bass drums, toms, cowbell, clap, hats and rimshot, captured at several pitch, timbre, tone and snap settings. The kit is laid out in multi-velocity form on standard General MIDI key mapping, so each hit can respond to how hard it is played. It is designed to be used inside Flite, not as a standalone instrument.

TR-808 Sound Coverage and Recording Chain

Wavea describes the kit as containing every available pitch, timbre and tone of every TR-808 instrument, along with various snap settings. The samples were captured through a Neve 1073 channel strip into a Prism Orpheus AD converter, which gives the set a consistent recording chain across all instruments.

The kit is taken from the Acid expansion, where it was first released. This version is made available exclusively for Flite v1.2.

Multi-Velocity Layout and Setup

The multi-velocity layout means each drum hit has several velocity layers, so playing softer or harder changes the sample rather than only its volume. The kit uses standard General MIDI key mapping, which makes it easier to play from a keyboard or drum pad controller and to sequence from a standard MIDI layout.
