01Overview

TSAR-1 Reverb is a reverb plugin from Softube built around a True Stereo algorithm. Softube describes it as a modern reverb designed to sound natural across a range of sources. Rather than offering dozens of parameters, the interface gives you a handful of sliders and switches, along with predelay, time, density, tone, high cut, early reflections, diffusion and modulation controls. The plugin also includes the TSAR-1R Reverb.

Sound and Character

Softube says the TSAR-1 aims for a natural, believable reverb tail rather than an emulation of a specific room or hardware unit. The Density control moves the tail between smooth, modern and dense settings and sparse, lush and vintage ones. Tone lets you shift the character between dark and bright, and High Cut tames excess sizzle in the tail.

The Early Reflections Type control selects a large, medium or small room, and the Early Reflections Mix knob lets you reduce the early reflections if you want the longer tail on its own. Diffusion adds smoothness, which the developer suggests can help on sources such as snare drums.

Controls and Workflow

The interface shows both current and previous settings, and you can toggle between them by clicking each parameter value display. Predelay can be used as a rhythmic effect or to align the tail with the early reflections. Modulation offers either a vintage-style chorus-like movement or a more modern one.

The 41 presets are split into a modern set, focused on contemporary reverb sounds, and a vintage set that imitates older reverbs. Each preset is documented with example use cases, so you can start from a preset and adjust from there.
