01Overview

Tonelux Tilt is an EQ plugin from Softube, modeled on the Tonelux MP1a discrete mic preamp and developed together with original Tonelux designer Paul Wolff. The main control is one knob: turn it clockwise to attenuate lows and boost highs, or counterclockwise for a fatter, darker sound. The plugin also includes high and low pass filters, a gain control and a polarity switch. A Tilt Live version is included for live sound work.

Tilt EQ Sound and Character

The Tilt filter works as its name suggests. Turning the knob clockwise attenuates the lows and boosts the highs, and turning it counterclockwise does the opposite, giving the sound more body and a darker tone. A Loud switch makes the effect stronger or keeps it more subtle.

The high and low pass filters are sweepable and switchable between 6 dB and 12 dB per octave, and they are described as gentle and natural sounding. Softube's model also includes the output transformer from the Tonelux MP1a, which adds subtle distortion to bass frequencies to fatten the low end.

Workflow and Live Use

Tilt is designed as a quick, rough setting for each channel. It includes the controls needed for a basic balance before more detailed EQ work, and the developer suggests it may sometimes be all a track needs to sit in a mix.

The Tilt Live version is optimized for live sound engineers and includes features they requested. Softube describes the plugin as very CPU friendly.
