01Overview

Intellijel Korgasmatron II takes its name from a classic Japanese synth, but Softube presents it as a separate design with more grit and flexibility than its predecessor. It is an add-on module that runs inside Softube Modular. Two independent filters can be configured in serial or parallel, blended with the Xfade control, and driven into soft or hard clipping at the output. Both filters track 1v/oct, so the module can also serve as a limited VCO.

Filter Architecture and Sound Character

Korgasmatron II contains two filters, each with a full set of six modes: low-pass 1-pole and 2-pole, band-pass 1-pole, high-pass 2-pole and 1-pole, and band-reject 1-pole. A rotary switch selects the mode for each side.

A dedicated Q drive control shapes resonance with soft clipping. The input amp adds an overdrive stage: the output is soft or hard clipped depending on how hard the input is driven. Softube says the hard and soft clipping differences are subtle on simple waveforms and more pronounced on complex sources such as chords.

Softube describes the range as going from clean and precise to aggressive and howling, with classic MS-20 style sounds among the possibilities.

Routing and Use as an Oscillator

A switch configures the two filters in serial or parallel routing, and the Xfade knob blends between them. Because both filters track 1v/oct across three to four octaves, you can patch them as a limited oscillator, which suits drones, tonal sources, and resonant tones.

The module is intended for use inside Softube Modular, so it fits producers already working in that environment.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What do I need to use Korgasmatron II?

Korgasmatron II is an add-on module and requires Softube Modular to run. It also needs an iLok account and a compatible host, which can be any 64-bit VST, VST3, AU, or AAX host.

Which formats and operating systems does it support?

It is available in VST3, VST2, AU, AAX, and RTAS formats, and runs on Windows and macOS in 64-bit. Softube says RTAS and TDM/VENUE are no longer supported, and it recommends VST3.

Does it work in all DAWs?

Softube officially tests its plugins in the latest Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase, Ableton Live, Studio One, and Reaper. It says other hosts will likely work if system requirements are met, but cannot guarantee support for unsupported systems.
