01Overview

TrueVerb gives producers separate control over early reflections and the reverb tail, so each part of the space can be shaped on its own. Its four control sections cover early reflections, reverb tail, EQ and damping. A Link button changes reflections and reverb together in proportion, and the two can carry independent frequency responses. The plugin is offered in VST2, AU and AAX formats.

Early reflections and reverb tail, edited separately

TrueVerb is built around a split between early reflections and the reverb tail. You can optimize each one separately, which makes it easier to place a sound in a defined space without relying on a single global reverb setting.

The Link button changes both sections proportionately when you want to scale the space as a whole. Reflections and reverb can also have independent frequency responses, so the early part of the space can sound brighter or darker than the tail behind it.

A shelving filter trims highs going into the reverb for smoother tails, and a low-frequency cut before the early reflections helps reduce muddiness. Dual controls for low- and high-frequency damping give further shaping over the decay.

Clarity for vocals and multiple instances

Waves describes TrueVerb's character as open and transparent, which the developer says fits well with vocals. The low-frequency cut ahead of the early reflections is aimed at keeping the reverb from clouding the low end.

When you run more than one TrueVerb in a session, the early reflections can be differentiated between instances, so separate spaces do not all sound identical.
