SX1500 is a software instrument for the full version of Kontakt 4.2.4 or higher. AudioThing built it from samples of each waveform of an old monophonic Italian analog synth, combined with Kontakt scripting to form a hybrid instrument. The developer says it can drift its oscillators to mimic the tuning instability of vintage hardware, and can add the faint knob noise caused by dust. The Performance View follows the original parameter layout, with some additional features.
SX1500 offers two oscillators with Saw, Square and Pulse 5% waveforms, plus a White/Pink noise generator. These feed a 12dB/oct filter, giving a straightforward subtractive signal path.
The developer describes the instrument as sounding both vintage and modern. Oscillator drift can be used to add the tuning wander associated with older analog gear, which suits pads and basses that need some unstable character.
A sine-wave LFO can modulate pitch and cutoff, and two envelopes shape the sound over time. A cutoff and velocity arpeggiator adds rhythmic movement.
The package includes 24 factory presets and room for 24 user presets, saved through the Kontakt interface. It contains 229 samples at 44.1 kHz / 24-bit and occupies 123 MB.
