01Overview

Stereoplacer Upgrade extends the Stereoplacer Elements plugin by NUGEN Audio. It is a stereo effects tool in the EQ category that lets you isolate chosen frequency bands and move them around the stereo panorama. The developer describes it as a pan control for stereo balance rather than a conventional EQ, aimed at mixing, sound design, mastering and restoration work. The product is sold as an upgrade, so it requires an existing Stereoplacer Elements installation.

Frequency-Targeted Stereo Positioning

Stereoplacer works with parametric bands that you tune to specific frequencies. Each band can be solo-auditioned, so you can focus on the content you want to move before adjusting its position in the stereo panorama.

The band curves include bell, high shelf and low shelf options, plus linked harmonic overtones. NUGEN Audio says this lets you redistribute stereo information subtly or make larger corrections, including moving hard-panned frequencies from one side to the other, while keeping the overall level balance of the material intact.

Mixing, Sound Design and Restoration Uses

In mixing, the plugin can pan low-frequency content without affecting the low end, or move a problem frequency away from a lead sound as an alternative to EQ. Sound designers can use it on harmonically complex synth sounds and on FX-laden tracks.

For mastering and restoration, the developer lists gentle linear phase adjustment of full mixes, repositioning of individual elements, side switching, and adding stereo detail to mono recordings while staying highly mono compatible.
