01Overview

The G-Equalizer brings the character of SSL's channel strip EQ into a plugin. Waves bases it on the rack-mounted G 292 EQ, the "pink knob" design that SSL used across several console generations. Its emphasis is on tone and shape rather than surgical detail, which makes it a fit for mix bus, vocal and instrument EQ work where a colored, familiar curve is the goal. Each of its formats runs on both Windows and macOS.

Sound Character and Curve Design

The G-Equalizer uses a proportional-Q design, which Waves describes as producing gentler tonal shifts and a smooth sound. Its two fully parametric stages sit alongside two shelving stages and two filters, a low-pass and a high-pass. The parametric stages offer greater boost and cut than earlier EQs from the developer.

An analog on/off switch lets you choose between analog character and digital transparency, so the same curve can be used clean or colored depending on the source.

Workflow and Key Controls

The HMFx3 and LMF÷3 buttons move the high-mid and low-mid center frequencies with a single click. This speeds up trying alternate frequency ranges without adjusting each band by hand.

The steep high-pass filter is aimed at tight low-frequency control, useful for cleaning up low end on tracks and buses before other processing.
