01Overview

Standard parametric EQ applies the same boost or cut at all times. F6 adds a dynamic layer, so each band reacts to the level of its frequency range and engages only when that level passes the threshold you set. Waves describes the plugin as combining the strengths of multiband dynamics and EQ in a single tool. Its six parametric bands float freely and can overlap, which gives you room to target specific problems on individual tracks.

Dynamic Equalization for Problem Frequencies

F6 compresses or expands a band only when its level exceeds the threshold. Quiet passages pass through untouched, so a resonance or harsh peak is corrected when it appears and left alone when it does not.

Each of the six floating bands can be set as a peak, high-shelf or low-shelf filter, and the filters can be narrow or wide. Additional high-pass and low-pass filters offer slopes from 6 to 24 dB per octave for cleaning up the top and bottom of a track.

Routing, Sidechain and Mid-Side Control

The plugin offers internal or external sidechain control with two response modes, so one signal can trigger processing on another. Stereo, mid or side processing lets you work on the center or the width of a mix separately.

A global mix control enables parallel processing, which can help blend the dynamic EQ effect with the original signal.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What is the difference between F6 and a standard EQ?

A standard EQ applies a fixed boost or cut. F6 applies dynamic processing to each band, so the effect engages only when the level in that frequency range crosses the threshold you set.

Which formats and operating systems does F6 support?

F6 is available in VST2, AU and AAX formats. It runs on Windows and macOS. Waves lists VST and AAX for PC running Windows 10 or later, and VST, AU and AAX for Mac running macOS Monterey 12 through Sequoia 15.

Can F6 process only the sides or the mid of a stereo mix?

Yes. F6 supports stereo, mid or sides processing, so you can apply dynamic EQ to the center or the width of a mix independently.
