01Overview

SP2016 Reverb is Eventide's reverb plugin built around algorithms from the SP2016, a studio rack processor introduced in 1982. The plugin offers three reverb types, Room, Stereo Room and Hi-Density Plate, each available in a Vintage version that follows the original hardware and a Modern version that is brighter and more diffuse. A Position control moves the reverb from the back of the room toward the stage, and an EQ section filters the reverb's high and low end.

Reverb Types and Vintage vs. Modern Algorithms

The plugin includes three reverb algorithms. Room is a basic ambient room with a mono input and stereo outputs, and its wide Pre-Delay range makes it useful for reverberant doubling and single echoes. Stereo Room recreates the ambience of a large concert hall with clear, natural reverberation, and Hi-Density Plate uses dual pickups to simulate a larger, heavier plate.

Each algorithm comes in two versions. Vintage versions are modeled on the original box, down to its bit depth. Modern versions are brighter, more diffuse and use a higher bit depth.

Controls for Placing Reverb in a Mix

The Position control is the main tool for placing the reverb in a mix. Moving one slider shifts the effect's perceived distance while keeping your other settings. PreDelay, Decay, Position and Diffusion let you shape the reverb's structure, and the EQ section offers high and low filtering with adjustable ranges. The low filter can cut or boost at the chosen frequency.

Stereo Room suits vocals, drums, acoustic guitar, strings and horns where a natural sound is the goal. Hi-Density Plate is aimed at making vocals, guitars and percussion sound larger and brighter.
