Super Chorus: Chorus and Supersaw Effect Plugin by Rave Generation

Super Chorus is a chorus and modulation effect plugin from Rave Generation that emulates five classic chorus circuits, including the CE-300, JP-8000, Alpha Juno 2, and a Supersaw mode, for VST3 and AU hosts.

01Overview

Super Chorus is an effects plugin from Rave Generation built around emulations of five chorus and modulation circuits. Its modes draw on the CE-300 (1984), the JP-8000 (1997), and the Alpha Juno 2 (1985), along with a modern Stereo Detune mode and a JP-8000 Supersaw mode. Each mode is tuned to the behavior of its original unit, including delay times, rate scaling, and dynamics. Modern controls such as stereo width, dry/wet mixing, and tone shaping are added on top, so the plugin can be used both for period-style chorus and for wider stereo modulation in current productions.

Best for

  • Classic analog chorus
  • Supersaw pads
  • Trance lead widening

Authentic Chorus Modes and Sound Character

The CE-300 mode models a warm analog chorus with compander processing, which the developer says reproduces the dynamic character of the original unit. The Alpha Juno 2 mode uses linear rate mapping and VCA-style compression and expansion to match its hardware.

The JP-8000 chorus mode adds enhanced stereo imaging. Rave Generation says each mode uses bucket brigade delay simulation with a specific delay time: 2.5 ms for the CE-300, 5.0 ms for the JP-8000, and 3.0 ms for the Alpha Juno 2. Each mode also has its own calibrated modulation range.

Input level includes soft saturation, which adds analog-style warmth to the signal before the effect processing.

Supersaw and Stereo Detune Workflow

The JP-8000 Supersaw mode uses seven voices: one center voice and six detuned voices. It applies an 11th-order polynomial detune curve, a complex mix control, and a random phase on each note trigger, so repeated notes do not sound identical.

The Stereo Detune mode uses cubic pitch-shifting curves for detuning. Rate and Depth change function depending on the selected mode. In chorus modes they control LFO speed and modulation depth, in Stereo Detune they set the detune amount, and in Supersaw they set voice spread.

Stereo width ranges from 0 to 100 percent, and variable dry/wet mixing lets you blend the effect into the original signal.

05FAQ

Questions, answered

What formats and operating systems does Super Chorus support?

Super Chorus is available in VST3 and AU formats. It runs on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) and on macOS 10.13 or later, with native support for Apple Silicon.

What do I need to run Super Chorus?

The developer lists an Intel Core i5 or AMD equivalent at 2 GHz or faster, 4 GB of RAM minimum with 8 GB recommended, and any VST3 or AU compatible DAW as the host.

What is the Supersaw mode in Super Chorus?

Supersaw is a JP-8000 emulation that uses seven voices, one center and six detuned, with a complex mix control. Rate and Depth then control voice spread.

Does Super Chorus have a Stereo Detune mode?

Yes. Stereo Detune uses cubic pitch-shifting curves, and the Rate and Depth controls set the detune amount in that mode.
